How-to guide
How to run a talent hunt in your college
A step-by-step guide to running a college talent hunt: plan the rounds, take registrations online, shortlist, judge fairly and announce the winner.
A good college talent hunt is planned backwards from the final: how many acts fit on stage, how many rounds you need to get there, and who will judge. Once that is fixed, the rest is registrations, a shortlist and marks.
This guide walks through it with MJX Events Talent Hunt, which is free to start and works on any phone.
Before you start
Pick the rounds
Auditions, a semi-final and a final is common. For a single fest day, one round is enough.
Fix the talents
Singing, dance, stand-up, art — tick only what your stage can take.
Line up judges
Two or three judges keeps marks fair. Each accepts the Judges’ Terms through their own link.
Find sponsors
Logos beside the registration form are worth money to local brands.
How it works
- 1
Create your account at MJX Events (free) and create your talent hunt with your fest’s name.
- 2
In Settings, choose the talents, the number of rounds and the last date to register. Add your judges and sponsors.
- 3
Open registrations and share the link on Instagram and in WhatsApp groups. Print the poster QR for notice boards.
- 4
When entries close, shortlist the acts for the stage. Each is told on WhatsApp with their registration number.
- 5
On the day, judges give marks out of 10 in each round. One act goes out per round; the lowest average is highlighted.
- 6
In the final round, choose the winner and show them on your page as a past winner.
Questions and answers
- How many rounds should a college talent hunt have?
- Three is common: auditions, a semi-final and the final. If everything happens on one fest day, one round is enough — it is the final.
- How do we judge fairly?
- Use two or three judges. Each gives marks out of 10, the average is worked out for you, and the lowest average is highlighted when someone has to go out — the final say stays with you.
- How do we get more entries?
- Post one link everywhere. MJX Events shows where each entry came from, so you can see whether Instagram, WhatsApp or posters worked best.
